What is Buy Local Marshfield?
It’s many things. It’s a group of people dedicated to making Marshfield a better place. It’s a movement to educate citizens and businesses on the need to buy local. It’s an avenue for continued growth in Marshfield. It’s a way of life.
A Buy Local Saturday Morning….
The Buy Local Buzz is continuing here in the Marshfield area, and summer is a great time to explore. No bitter cold to fight, no snow to walk through, just a beautiful opportunity to walk the streets to rediscover what our local communities have to offer. Recently, my daughter and I had a “buy local Saturday morning”, and I challenge you to do the same!
We live in the community of Pittsville, and on a Saturday in late May found ourselves without my son or husband. We decided to enjoy the morning in Pittsville. We began with breakfast at the local café, running into so many familiar faces, enjoying the local conversation. Breakfast was wonderful, as was the service and company. After breakfast, we headed to our grocery store, where we were again greeted by a familiar face, the owner of the store, wishing us a good morning. We found all we needed for our weekend ahead, and loaded the groceries into the car. Our next stop was the local hardware store, where we were able to purchase the flowers and seeds for the garden, as well as our last minute landscaping supplies. We were set for the day.
Lunch time is a great chance to get a walk in - window shopping local stores. Getting familiar with what they have to offer, so the next time I am in need of something, I can find it. I’ve found a quilt shop with supplies I can purchase for a dear friend who quilts. A party store that offers all types of party supplies. A florist with beautiful candles. And I’ve only just begun!
In spending some time browsing the Marshfield area businesses, I’m struck by the experience of shopping locally. The people you run into, the greetings you receive, and the assistance offered. It’s so easy to get into routines, shopping at the same stores, buying the same things. Taking time to see all that is offered can add some spice into your life!
I offer this challenge: Take an opportunity to see something that the Marshfield area has to offer. Take a lunch hour, or a Saturday morning, and check out a new place or two. See who they are. There is a lot more out there than any of us realizes!
